Nearly 50 businesses will be handing out Halloween treats Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hiller Park for the third annual Halloween in Hiller.

The affair, sponsored by the city and Friends of Hiller Park Committee, will take place in the Barbara Ferrill Softball Fields, and kick off with a costume contest for ages up to 11. Visitors also will find hayrides and fire truck rides, children's games and inflatables, and the showing of the movie "Hotel Transylvania" at dusk. Food will be available for a minimal fee.

Councilmember Dixie Newman says about 2,000 people turned out for the event last year, and she's hoping for as many or more this year.
