This week the City of Gulfport had the pleasure of recognizing and honoring some of our local community leaders and some of our own! Major Gary Sturdivant received a mayoral proclamation proclaiming July 2 as Salvation Army MS Gulf Coast Day in the City of Gulfport. The ASGARDS Motorcycle Club was also recognized along with our own Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo Princess, Adrienna Payton. Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt recognized District Chief Don Knox on his retirement from the Gulfport Fire Department and Deputy Chief Chris Loposser recognized two long-term staff members from the Gulfport Police Department – Monica Johnson for 20 years and Debra Malley who has been employed with us for 25 years.

A little while back a couple of friends that love wearing bow ties had an idea to have some fun with bow ties that could do something good for the community.

The initial idea has grown into an event entitled "Bow Ties & Beignets" that will take place on August 28, National Bow Tie Day, at the Island View Casino Towers.

The event will raise money to place a rubber sidewalk throughout the playground area of the Harrison County Children's Emergency Shelter making the play area safer for the children who have been placed there.

Tickets will be available for sale soon -
$25.00 - General Admission which includes breakfast

$50.00 - Premium Admission which includes breakfast and a limited edition tailor-made silk bow tie commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Katrina.
